Welding
High‑integrity resistance welding and advanced assembly solutions for precision electrical contacts and motor components.
AMFT delivers advanced welding processes designed to manufacture high‑precision electrical contact assemblies and welded motor components with exceptional consistency, performance, and material efficiency. Our welding technologies enable the precise placement of silver and silver‑alloy contacts onto ferrous and non‑ferrous strip material prior to stamping, ensuring continuous contact integrity aligned with exact customer design requirements.
With decades of experience, skilled technicians, and proprietary equipment, AMFT is one of the few suppliers capable of offering both in‑lay and on‑lay (top‑lay) contact solutions, supporting traditional bimetal designs as well as modern value‑engineered alternatives.
Why AMFT
Advanced Manufacturing Processes
- In‑Lay and On‑Lay Strip Welding - AMFT’s multi‑stripe production process enables traditional bimetal products with a precious metal layer that is flush or semi‑flush with the base strip surface. For value‑engineering initiatives, AMFT’s on‑lay process offers substantial material savings by converting traditional in‑lay designs to a more economical on‑lay alternative without compromising performance or reliability.
- Wire‑Welded Contact Assemblies - AMFT manufactures high‑precision wire‑welded contact assemblies using solid silver or silver‑alloy wire positioned with exceptional accuracy to meet specific application and design requirements. Resistance welding creates a high‑integrity metallurgical bond, delivering reliable electrical performance while optimizing precious metal usage and cost control. Wire can be applied vertically or horizontally depending on functional requirements, making this method an efficient solution for precision electrical contacts.
- Profile Tape Welded Contact Assemblies - Using in‑house manufactured profile tape and the latest welding technology, AMFT produces precision tape‑welded contact assemblies with high integrity and repeatability. Profile tape is accurately positioned and resistance welded onto the base material according to customer specifications. AMFT has designed and built proprietary welding equipment capable of welding micro‑scale through large, multi‑layer profile tapes at high production speeds.
Contact Tape Manufacturing Expertise
To complement our discrete contact assembly capabilities, AMFT also manufactures:
- Solid contact tapes
- Bi‑metal contact tapes
- Tri‑metal layered contact tapes that optimize precious metal usage by incorporating copper as an intermediate layer, improving thermal management at the contact interface and reducing overall precious metal consumption.
Contact tapes are produced using two proven processes:
- Resistance welding for small or low‑volume production
- Hot pressure bonding for higher‑volume production and materials unsuitable for resistance welding. Hot pressure bonding enables the joining of oxide‑containing materials such as Ag/CdO, Ag/SnO, and Ag/ZnO, which are required for specialized electrical applications.
